Whi Is Ihrm Such an Important Issue for Mne’s ?
Why is IHRM such an important issue for MNEââ¬â¢s? International Human Resources Management is the process of procuring, allocating, and effectively utilizing human resources in a multinational corporation. It is born thanks to globalization and to the growth of multinational enterprises all around the world. Globalization and the effective use of international human resources are two major issues facing firms in todayââ¬â¢s global economy. As more and more firms operate internationally, there is a clear need to understand how to manage human resources that are located outside the domestic environment.A HRM system cannot be an efficient approach for a multinational enterprise (MNE) to optimize their employeesââ¬â¢ performances because compared to IHRM: it has less HR activities, a smaller perspective, less involvement in employeesââ¬â¢ personal lives, and difficulties to adapt to the workforce mix (expatriates and locals). Indeed, an MNE has to deal with different types o f employees: * Host-country Nationals (HCNs): locals of a country a MNE operates in a subsidiary. * Parent-country Nationals (PCNs): expatriates from the country where the MNE has its headquarters. Third country Nationals (TCNs): employees from countries other than the host or home country. These are also expatriates. The correlation between HCNs and PCNs in an MNE is crucial because they both have different points of view about the activity. HCNs are useful thanks to their knowledge of foreign market, language and needs and they know human resources policies for local employees, whereas PCNs have the ability to maintain control (for example with a newly established subsidiary), to adapt an ethnocentric attitude and to process an expatriation management (staffing, training, compensation). An IHRM system is a product of distinct activities, functions and processes that are directed at attracting, developing and maintaining the human resources of a MNE. Indeed, IHRM seeks to assist org anizations to make the most effective use of their human resources in the international context. Schuler said: ââ¬Å"IHRM for many firms is likely to be critical to their success, and effective IHRM can make the difference between survival and extinction for many MNEsâ⬠. This quote means that an MNE has different choices for its IHRM approach. The four generic IHRM orientations of MNEs: ethnocentric, polycentric, geocentric, and regiocentric, introduced by Perlmutter (1969) and Perlmutter and Heenan (1979), are widely recognized. * In an ethnocentric approach, the MNE exports the home HRM system abroad. Strategic decisions are made at the headquarters and subsidiaries are managed by expatriates. Like Porter said: ââ¬Å"In a global industry, a firm must integrate its activities like HRM on a worldwide basis to capture the linkages among countriesâ⬠. * An MNE with a polycentric approach adapts to the local HRM system that the local companies use.Foreign subsidiaries have a large autonomy and HCNs fill the senior positions. HCNs are more likely to be promoted to positions at headquarters. * In a geocentric approach, the MNE takes a worldwide approach to its operations: employees can be promoted to senior positions in both headquarters and subsidiaries according to their capabilities, regardless of nationality and location. * The regiocentric approach is similarly to the geocentric approach, but senior managers enjoy regional rather than global autonomy in decision-making.Each of these four approaches has certain advantages and disadvantages. The choice of approaches to IHRM depends on the interaction of home-country factors, host-country factors and firm characteristics. The firm has to adapt its HRM activities to each host countryââ¬â¢s specific requirements. It is also linked to cultural environment, like Hofstede said: ââ¬Å"Culture awareness from senior and middle management is essentialâ⬠. The location of the country is one aspect of the context in which MNEs operate. The home-country factors include home HRM systems and domestic political, legal, economic and sociocultural factors. These factors impact on IHRM through their influence on a firmââ¬â¢s characteristics. Organizations in one country might thus share many similarities while being essentially different from those headquartered in other countries. According to Ferner (1997), even the most global companies remain deeply rooted in the national business systems of their country of origin. Without any internal or external influence, an MNE would export all of its own home HRM system to subsidiaries.IHRM is definitely an essential issue for MNEs because it depends on it to avoid barriers of distance, language, time and culture between employees, which often make it very difficult for managers to resolve conflicts. Nowadays, we can still wonder if it is possible to develop a generic IHRM model that could be widely applicable. ââ¬Å"IHRM is of fundamental impo rtance in realizing an efficient and effective multinational organization because it enables the firm to deal with control and cross-cultural issues that are both internal and external to the firmâ⬠(Adler and Ghadar 1990).

Article Review on Human Buyology
Human BUYology 101 Articles info: ââ¬Å"Human BUYology 101â⬠by Rachel Sullivan. Published in Reader Digest Asia, 2011; 42-49. The article, Human BUYology 101, argues that consumers tend to make unplanned purchased that cause by the psychological forces. The author tried to highlight what makes people buy. The article has many quotes from the book of BUYology by Martin Lindstrom. It first presents the arguments of those supporting the idea of the effectiveness of logos, product placement and subliminal advertising, the correlation between religion and branding, then the influence of culture and gender divide and lastly, the influence of sense. The first part of the article mainly focuses on the idea that the effectiveness of logos, product placement and subliminal advertising: how those factors can influence people to buy. We are constantly bombarded with subliminal advertising throughout our waking hours. For the most of us, the main source of this is television advertising. It starts with eye-catching logos which could last in our memory maybe like, forever. Then, product placement plays a large part in how easily and effectively subliminal advertising can happen.Besides that, the author of the article highlighted in the article with the opinion expressed by the correlation between religion and branding where shopping is the same way as we practice our religion. Consumers' perception of well-known brands just like their views on the figures associated with religious icons. In short, it can be concluded that this well-known brands can create obsessed within themselves. People want the feel to belong; sense of belonging. The author calls this as religious experience which is related to religious value in impulsive buying behavior among the consumer. The author also discuss about how the culture and gender divide could influence the unplanned purchase of some consumer. Culture may refer to the set of values, ideas, and attitudes that are accepted by a homoge nous group of people and transmitted to the next generation. Culture also determines what is acceptable with product advertising. Culture determines what people wear, eat, reside and travel. So, culture could affect the decision making style for purchase of a product. While genders divide is kind of the difference between women and men, especially as reflected in social, political, intellectual, cultural, or economic attainments or attitudes. The author argued that women value their possessions for emotional and relationship-oriented reasons, whereas men value their possessions for functional and instrumental reasons. As for the influence of the sense on unplanned purchase where the author highlighted the term of sensory shopping, in which the sensory shopping has to do with consumerââ¬â¢s perception.Though necessarily based on incomplete and unverified (or unreliable) information, perception is equated with reality for most practical purposes and guides human behaviour in general . The primary human senses consist of smell, taste, hearing, touch, and sight. So, sensory shopping related to sensation or the physical senses like the smell of freshly baked waffles; transmitted or perceived by the senses and triggering the hungry feeling.I believe the topic being discussed is very arguable, and just I believe how people could amaze himself to found out how they could influenced by many different things that make them purchase. People should learn to resist the urge to buy unnecessary items. I strongly believe that planning is the key to keeping impulse buying under control. You may find after more rational reflection that you don't need the item as much as you thought you did. We should make and believe those impulse purchases as challenging as possible.

Instructional adjustment Essay
Introduction: A survey polled some 770 students and asked how much effort they felt they were putting into their schoolwork. To everyoneââ¬â¢s surprise, the students with low grades thought they worked as hard as anybody! Yet when their study habits were examined, it was discovered that they actually did far less homework than their high-achieving schoolmates (Awake, 7). It appears that their teachers were at least partially responsible for this delusion. Perhaps they felt that these low-achieving children were not capable of much to begin with. Or they may have felt that merely being warm and friendly toward them was enough to motivate them to excel. Whatever the case, it seems that the teachers highly praised the studentsââ¬â¢ most minimal efforts. Passing grades were routinely given out merely for attending class. The children were made to feel that they already worked as hard as they could. Thus they did little to improve. This is among the problems occurring in schools and other training institutes for children. According to surveys, there should be more creative and interesting strategical approaches that They polled some 770 students and asked how much effort they felt they were putting into their schoolwork. In short, both groups of students should be able to be catered by the strategies to be applied. In this paper, a wide array of choices and steps shall be discussed to answer the said problem in teaching and training. The Teaching Strategies: Every study time must include reviews of the past learned lessons. This will help the students remember the lessons that were learned during the last meeting for the class and thus refresh in their memories the overall content of the subject. After the review, the presentation of the new concept must be performed by the teacher. The following are some examples of being able to do so in such an interesting way for both the slow and advance learners: â⬠¢ Presentation using illustrative drawings-children and students of all ages often enjoy the drawings shown to introduce a certain topic. â⬠¢ Usage of Mind games- as an introduction let the students think in a fun way. â⬠¢ Introduction using a story- this will help the students think and analyze what is going to be discussed. Aside from this, the studentsââ¬â¢ attention will be caught by the story. â⬠¢ Usage of Media- there available VCDs and DVDs provided for several subjects in school. This could help the students enjoy while they learn. â⬠¢ Usage of technology- computer presentations and other presentations using technology inventions could help the learners find a way to understand the topic in their own pace. â⬠¢ Relate the topic to reality-Usually the certain topics discussed in school are based in real life â⬠¢ Use key words to introduce the topic-Usually one word keys that introduce a whole topic helps the students remember the lessons easier. â⬠¢ Use open-ended questions- letting the students think will help them comprehend better on what is being discussed in class. â⬠¢ Encouraging a role play activity- this will allow the students have a refreshing start for a new lesson â⬠¢ Giving handouts about the new lesson After introducing the lesson for the day a guided procedure must follow through to help the students go along with the topic for the day. Here are some hints in guiding students effectively: â⬠¢ Using a diagram- an illustrated and colorful diagram could help the students visualize the activities â⬠¢ Use guided questions- give the students the chance to decide on how they are going to go about the lesson. â⬠¢ Go beyond the book- do not just use the book as a source, instead let the students prepare their own sources and let them share it in class for classroom participation. â⬠¢ Prepare handouts Aside from classroom discussions though, students who are assumed to be slow learners must be encouraged to do independent practices which may include the following: â⬠¢ Remedial Classes â⬠¢ Extra Homework Activities â⬠¢ Extended class sessions for a group of students â⬠¢ Students assist students program â⬠¢ Extra project for make-up home works for classroom activities which they could not cope up with. â⬠¢ Encourage home reading activities â⬠¢ Making considerable time adjustments for a studentââ¬â¢s completion of school requirements With all these guidelines, a student is supposed to comply with the teacherââ¬â¢s strategies and if that doesnnââ¬â¢t happen, some interventions might be necessary for the teacher to use like: â⬠¢ Finding the root cause of the problem â⬠¢ Identifying the studentââ¬â¢s learning stage or learning pace â⬠¢ Match students to appropeiate levels of learning â⬠¢ Adopt evidence-based intervention strategies â⬠¢ Require active response â⬠¢ Review, review. Review. If all this things shall be considered in teaching a group of students comprising of both the advance and the slow learners, agreeable results are to be gained since all these are already proven effective by many teachers worldwide. Hence, the teacher must always see to it that every learning need of each student in a class is sufficiently provided. Midterm Exam Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Midterm Exam - Essay Example The securities are supporting various political sides and hence creating a situation whereby a certain proportion of the population is not secure. Without fair security to all people, a country experiences political instability. In other countries, military leaders are being involved in politics and hence the forces side with them. In such a situation, a county is exposed to political instability since their security is not guaranteed. In the last decade, the phenomenon of coups in Arab regimes that has dominated the political world since 1950ââ¬â¢s has come to an end. Most regimes have expanded their military forces and hence making a military coup very complex. The numbers of military officers have grown by over 200% (Cordesman 57). The fund of the military officers has also been increases and hence they cannot be lured to taking political sides through money favors. This has ensured that the military can guard the countryââ¬â¢s political stability. From the above dig into, it is apparent that the military have been in involved in generating political stability and political instability in Arab countries. Discovery of oil in Saudi Arabia was highly welcomed, and it was anticipated that the country was going to rise highly economically. The demand of oil globally had been constantly increasing and hence the country focused on oil production leaving out the other economic activities. The countries oil export was very high and hence its currency value spear-rocketed making it difficult for other countries to purchase its exports. The domestic industries were negatively affected by the economic situation and hence limiting their growth and reducing the possibility of opening of new business. The local industries participate in state building, and when they are in a position of no or little growth, the rate of state building is very low. The collapse of many local industries due to the value of the currency in

Assighment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Assighment - Essay Example All this will indeed be a challenge for me but utilizing the gained knowledge will help me overcome the challenges and make the store a profit center. Discussion What are the most significant challenges facing you as manager of this store? For me as the manager, the most significant challenges can be enumerated as follows: Low volume of Sales: As the manager of the store, the most important thing for me to keep the store afloat would be the finances. The store cannot operate at a loss and to ensure that it is not at a loss, sales are the most important criteria. The store will have certain fixed overheads and certain variables. Fixed overheads include salaries, electricity, rent, telephone expenses etc. These are the costs the store has to bear even if there is no sale. These components are discounted by the profit which is generated out of sales. In the event of no or low sale, the fixed expenses stand as it is and proves heavy for the store. Variable expenses also are a part of exp enses which are incurred in case of sale. Suppose freight charges for delivery of products etc. So this cost is only incurred if there are sales and is directly proportionate to sales. So in case, there is low sale, my store will have to bear the fixed overheads at least. There needs to be a minimum amount of sale to cover the fixed costs and be at zero profit at least(Berman, 2007). Manpower issue: Since the store is not doing well, the manpower cannot be more due to their costs. The plus point here is that the store has a good blend of experienced and fresh manpower. So to utilize maximum potential from them, the experienced ones should provide some training to the fresh ones and always back them up during sales. The attrition rate also has to come down to save on training time and cost. Branding and Advertising: Since the store once enjoyed loyalty of customers in neighborhood, the goodwill re-building would not be so difficult. I should focus on how I can harness the goodwill al ready built among certain groups of people to attract them to be our customers at the shopping mall and to promise them that the quality of products and services are same irrespective of change of hands of the store. What steps would you take during the first 90 days as manager to address these challenges? In the first 90 days, the steps I would take have been described below: Since the employees include high school and college students, I would harness their contacts to boost my sales. I would plan an incentive for each employee if they give me a minimum amount of business. Example: An employee will be offered x% of the sales value if they give a minimum of x amount of business. Since they are college students, offering only a small amount will be enough to motivate them to bring in business. This will be done keeping in mind the profitability of business. Once we have customers, they can be converted to repeated customers later on through schemes and good service. Specifically aim ed promotion: The store needs to be promoted in such a way that the people who were already loyal customers can connect to the promotion activities and believe that the store is still the same as they liked it even after change of hands. The erstwhile loyal customers will be the first ones whom I would like to be my customers as they will be easy to convince. Once they are back, word-of-mouth will play
Heart attack Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Heart attack - Research Paper Example that reduce or block the flow of the blood to the heart muscles thus not only decreasing the supply of the blood and oxygen to the heart but also making the muscles to exert more pressure or force for the blood flow. The blockage in the artery damage heart muscles so that it is not able to function normally and lead to malfunctioning of heart or heart attack. If the blockage is not removed fast, it could be fatal and may result in the death of the person (Antman, 2011). On the inside linings of the one or more coronary arteries, plaques or atheroma develop over a period of time, which narrow the arteries thus obstructing free flow of the requisite amount of blood to the heart muscles. High cholesterol are main causes of thickening of blood vessels. If not treated timely, the thickening of arteries could block the blood flow to heart. Many times, high blood pressure also becomes key causes of heart attack. ââ¬ËInitial treatment requires attention to any precipitating factors, such as hypertension, anemia, congestive heart failure (CHF), tachyarrhythmia and valve diseaseââ¬â¢ (Opie,p351). The other forms of treatment are medicine and surgery as follow: Angioplasty is first option to clear the blockage in the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart. A stent is later used within vessel and prevents its closing up. It is a metallic mesh tube that expands artery walls when it is inserted within it (Pifarre & Scanlon, 2001). Complications in the treatment of heart attack occur when the patient has many diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problems. These diseases help delay the treatment or complicate it. Acute diabetic patients tend to avoid operations as blood clotting is a delayed process which could cause complicity in heart operations. I chose this topic because heart is one of the vital organs of living beings. It pumps oxygen and blood throughout the body for life sustenance and serves as major indicator of health and wellbeing. It is

Diagnosing Industrial Service of American, Inc Essay
Diagnosing Industrial Service of American, Inc - Essay Example The paper shall focus on Industrial service of American Inc. as our reference organization. The ultimate aim of this paper is to diagnose and determine whether the Industrial service of American inc. is performing according to the expectations. The paper shall consider the input and output organization. From the findings on how the inputs are organized, it would be easier to tell whether the overall performance of the company is high, medium, or low. The first section shall describe the kind of activities taking place in this company. Industrial Service of America, inc. is a company dealing with the recycling of the stainless steel, and non-ferrous products. The company also has a role of providing various services to the customers. However, according to the market analysis, the company is primarily focuses its attention towards recycling business (McLuhan, 2005). The kind of activities taking place in the company involves collecting, purchasing, and selling different recyclable meta llic equipments. The company has two categories of activities. The first category involves buying, processing and sale of stainless steel related equipments including the high-temperature alloys. The second category deals with the non-ferrous scraps such as copper, aluminum, and brass. As far as waste service segment is concerned, the company leases and sells service waste and recycling equipments (Nadler & Tushman, 1980). Inputs In order to diagnose the organization situation of the Industrial Service of American, inc. there is a need to review how the company organizes and integrates its inputs. The main inputs used in the company include the raw materials, the human resource, the capital and the management skills and knowledge employed. The main raw materials used by the company include the land, the scrap metals. As far as the scrap metal is concerned, the company has reliable sources of scrap metal. There are two main sources of these raw materials (Jones & Jennifer, 2006). The first source is the industrial and commercial non-ferrous scrap metal providers. This is where the company gets materials such as waste aluminum, copper, stainless steel, nickel-bering metals, brass, and others. The second main source of the raw materials is the peddlers who collect the material from variety of sources and deliver to the company. The company has inventory system that is used to monitor the quantities of the ferrous and non-ferrous raw materials that include the stainless steel, and the scrap. The inventory system is designed in a manner that the cost use to purchase the raw materials is relatively lower than the anticipated selling price (Jones & Jennifer, 2006). In this vein, if the company is anticipating for a future decline in the selling price of the scrap metal and the finished products, then it would make any adjustment it feels necessary in order to reduce the value of the inventory so tat it is in line with the anticipated value. The raw materials handled by the company are classified into two. The first category involves those that are in saleable condition at the time of acquisition. This means that little or no transformation would be imposed on these kinds of raw materials (Rue &Lloyd, 2003). The second category of raw materials constitutes those raw materials that
